New Work by Lilian Day Thorpe

“Set primarily at dusk, my recent photomontages evoke the stillness and solitude that emerge as nighttime descends. I’m interested in how landscapes and the objects within them transform once the sun has set. Not only does the world become more quiet, but everyday settings take on strange, unfamiliar qualities. Silhouetted rooflines, window panes, and networks of trees appear abstracted and otherworldly at twilight. I enhance these traits by portraying only a single lightsource, such as the moon, a neighbor’s window, or a bright star. While I don’t aim to recall specific locations or places, I hope my compositions provoke emotional responses from onlookers.” Lilian Day Thorpe
